The Polish Development Fund (PFR) has paid out nearly PLN 25 billion (EUR 5.49 billion) in aid to companies over the past weeks under its financial shield mechanism, PFR deputy head Bartosz Marczuk wrote on Twitter on Friday.

Marczuk wrote that nearly 120,000 companies, employing some 1.2 million people, had already benefited from the shield aimed at cushioning the impact of the coronavirus crisis.

The PLN 100 billion (21.95 billion) scheme, launched two weeks ago, is to help companies maintain liquidity and financial stability, and preserve jobs during the period of severe economic disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
